“I smell vodka.” My boss says this every time anyone in the office uses some hand sanitizer. The reason that he thinks he’s smelling vodka, is because there is in fact alcohol in hand sanitizer, up to 62 percent in the Purell brand. Ingesting hand sanitizer would equate to drinking 120 proof liquor. However, this doesn’t mean that you should drink hand sanitizer to get drunk. Actually, it can be very dangerous for you and can lead to alcohol poisoning which can be fatal. It seems like in every office across America, on just about every desk there is a bottle of hand sanitizer. People carry hand sanitizer in their pockets and purses everywhere they go. Sometimes it can even be seen on key chains, dangling from a clip, waiting to be used. Hand sanitizer has become as necessary to some people as their eye-glasses, wallets or even clothing. It is important to make sure that children only use hand sanitizer under strict supervision, as it would not take very much for a child to become very sick. There have been reported cases of children ingesting hand sanitizer and becoming very ill, and having to go to the hospital. So, no matter how bad of a day you're having, or how much you feel like you need something to help you unwind at work, you should never, ever try to drown your sorrows in a bottle of Purell hand sanitizer. |

Last Friday was Halloween and we celebrated here at BuyOnlineNow by having a costume contest and eating way too much candy. Having Halloween on a Friday seemed to make it even more fun than usual, and everyone really seemed to enjoy it. Marcia and Mark, our customer service manager and director of sales respectively, tied for first place. Marcia dressed as a clown, and used a campaign strategy designed to help her get more votes. She handed out bags of candy that read, “vote for the clown.” Mark was a very convincing Richard Simmons. Third place went to our director of web development, Nate Ende, who dressed as Ron Burgundy from the movie Anchorman. We also had a whoopee cushion, Elvira, Pauly Bleeker from the movie “Juno,” the white rabbit, Larry the Cable Guy, the angel of death and Ozzy Osbourne among others. Office supplies have never seemed so scary. Here’s some pictures of the winning costumes. Marcia as a Clown Mark as Richard Simmons Nate as Ron Burgundy |

WEBWIRE – Friday, October 17, 2008 As most people know who have ever purchased file cabinets, they rarely go on sale, especially HON brand file cabinets. But, drastic times sometimes call for unheard of measures, and with difficult economic times facing all of us, BuyOnlineNow has decided to offer a sale on the most popular HON lateral file cabinets, which is good through October 31, 2008. While most stores are raising their prices, BuyOnlineNow is lowering them.
HON lateral file cabinets are available in a variety of color and style options in up to 5 drawer formats. The file cabinets are available in a variety of widths and depths, so that there is an option for any office. In the 2 and 3 drawer lateral file cabinets, counterweights are used to prevent tipping when the drawer is open. This not only helps for steady operation, but certainly gives HON file cabinets an added sense of safety. All HON lateral file cabinets use leveling glides, an extremely quiet ball bearing suspension and tough drawer locks. The locks use the “one key” technology, so that one lock is used to lock all of the drawers. “We believe that HON quality, combined with BuyOnlineNow’s free shipping and superior customer service offers unrivalled value to filing cabinet buyers.” said BuyOnlineNow Marketing Director Jeremy Nelson. “This sale is an opportunity for them to receive the biggest discounts of the year on our fine HON lateral file cabinets; all of which include HON’s limited lifetime warranty.” More information on the HON lateral file cabinet sale can be seen here: http://www.buyonlinenow.com/HON-Lateral-File-Cabinet-Sale.asp HON is the recognized leader when it comes to not only lateral file cabinets, but also on all styles of file cabinets as well as office desks, workstations, office chairs, conference tables and more. BuyOnlineNow has been open since 2000 and has swiftly become one of the web’s leading office products retailers. They started during the big dot com bust, when most online companies were folding, and continued to grow as many stores shut their online doors. So, it comes as no surprise that now, while most online office supply stores are raising prices due to the current economic troubles, BuyOnlineNow is offering a sale on HON lateral file cabinets. - Related Links

WEBWIRE – Thursday, October 16, 2008 BuyOnlineNow Teams with MBM Destroyit Shredders to Supply You with the World’s Most Heavy Duty Paper Shredders. MBM Destroyit paper shredders are known worldwide as being some of the longest lasting, most heavy duty paper shredders around. www.BuyOnlineNow.com is now able to supply Destroyit paper shredders across America. The MBM Destroyit paper shredders have been considered some of the world’s top shredders for the last 45 years. All shredders are manufactured in Germany, using high quality German steel and parts. Known for being reliable, fast and extremely easy to use, Destroyit shredders are a favorite for many large companies because not only are they designed to be able to shred massive amounts of documents, but they will outlast all other shredders on the market. Destroyit shredders are known for being a popular brand of industrial strength, commercial grade paper shredders. Their largest shredders utilize a conveyor belt and can shred reams of paper and three-ring binders. This type of machine is designed to help companies who are currently running multiple paper shredders throughout their entire building, move their shredder operation to one system that is not only safe but extremely reliable. Destroyit also incorporates the same high quality and technology in their line of desk side paper shredders, which are made for smaller offices or home use. In between the desk side and the high capacity lines of paper shredders are what Destroyit calls their centralized office shredders. These are basically intended for medium to larger offices that require a paper shredder that can shred large amounts on a daily basis. The high security paper shredders by destroyit, also called super micro-cut (SMC) shredders, produce such a tiny shred particle, that they in fact exceed the highest DIN security level, which is the industry standard security level system. A really nice safety feature on some of the destroyit paper shredders is the SPS (Safety Protection System). This has been put in place to help avoid any accidental injuries that can occur when using paper shredders, and can also help prevent overheating and paper jams. SPS equipped shredders have an electronically controlled transparent safety shield in the feed opening and an “Easy Switch,” that uses color codes and back-lit symbols to indicate the operational status. BuyOnlineNow.com understands the importance of finding a paper shredder that not only shreds documents but is built using the best materials which gives their customers a long lasting product that should provide years of service. This is why Destroyit paper shredders have been added to their online office supply store. Destroyit paper shredders can be viewed at http://www.buyonlinenow.com/mbm-destroyit-paper-shredders.asp About BuyOnlineNow.com: After quickly making a name for themselves in the online office supply and office furniture market, BuyOnlineNow is now nearing their ten year anniversary. Today is Monday October 5, 2008 and that marks the first day of Customer Service Appreciation Week. This is the week in which we all are reminded to give thanks to all the hard working men and women toiling away in customer service related jobs. We here at BuyOnlineNow have always felt very strongly and passionately about our customer service, and consider it to be our best and most important aspect. As a way of expressing our appreciation for our customer service department, we recently sat down with Marcia Seibert, Customer Service Manager, and asked her a few questions about working here and her life in general. Thank you so much, Marcia, for all of your hard work, and for running the best customer service department on the internet.
Here’s our conversation with Marcia:
OfficeSuppliesBlog: Hello Marcia, thank you so much for taking the time to do this, we really appreciate it. How long have you been in the office supplies racket? Marcia Seibert: This is my fifth year at Buyonlinenow.com. OSB: How did your job change once you were promoted to customer service manager? MS: My job changed a lot when I was promoted to customer service manager. Answering fewer phone calls would be the most noticeable change. I miss that. I'm very competitive and I challenged myself to be the number one person in the sales department. I still deal with customers but it's usually the ones who are experiencing problems. I like helping them. I work more closely with the other representatives in the customer service department. I like that also. OSB: What does "Customer Service" mean to you? MS: Customer Service means to provide the best service to each individual customer. It doesn't matter if it's a large or small order. I treat everyone like their call is the most important call I've received. Customers can hear that. I've always felt if a customer compliments me I know I've done a good job. I really try to achieve that. It's my ultimate goal.
OSB: What's your most memorable customer service experience? MS: We don't tend to talk about the positive memorable experiences but I've definitely had them. I've had several customers offer me jobs. I had another customer tell me I was one of the nicest persons he had talked to. He said no one in Montana is that nice and did I ever think about moving. Another instance that made me laugh was setting up a delivery arrangement for a customer. I've made 1000's of these calls and this customer told me I had the best telephone voice he ever heard.
OSB: Explain the term "The Ultimate Customer Service Experience." MS: The Ultimate Customer Service Experience is exceeding our customers expectations. For some customers, it is being able to navigate the website easily. For others it's their phone calls being answered quickly. Many customers appreciate receiving their orders within 24 hours. It is returns handled simply and efficiently. It's striving to do better. It's the total package. It's what gives us the edge over our competition. OSB: After a particularly stressful day, what do you find is the best way to relax after work? MS: There are times when my job is stressful. The stress is usually caused from something out of my control. There are days when a lot goes wrong. I love to solve customer’s problems. I receive great satisfaction from it. I don't ever leave stressed. Tired maybe, but never stressed. I relax by talking to my children on the phone. It's a good thing I have free long distance to all 4 of them. OSB: Name your favorite of the following MS: Animal? Anything from a distance Color? Green Food? Seafood Movie? The Notebook Book? The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down T.V. Show? Grey’s Anatomy Sports Team? Minnesota Twins OSB: What was the last great vacation you took? MS: I spent a week at my cabin last July. All four of my children, their spouses or boyfriends, my 3 grandchildren and 3 of my nieces and nephews were together for 8 straight days. We went water skiing, swimming, fishing and tubing. We cooked every meal together. It has been a few years since we were able to do this. It was incredible. No one wanted to leave. OSB: What would you say is the most satisfying aspect of your job? MS: The most satisfying aspect of my job is working for a company that really appreciates all of its employees. They don't hesitate to tell us and show us how grateful they are for all of our hard work. It really means a lot. OSB: If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go? MS: I'm a family person. I would go to New Orleans LA or Huntington Beach CA to visit my daughters. OSB: What do you want your legacy to be? MS: Only one thing, that I did my job well. OSB: At one point in your career here at BuyOnlineNow, was there a specific young man who worked with you in customer service, in the order tracking department, who now works in the marketing department, that made a particular impression on you, and is in fact probably your most favorite person you've ever worked with in your entire life? MS: There was a young man who was definitely one of my most favorite people that I've ever worked with. No one makes us laugh like that young man used to. I miss that. No one can sing like him either. I also liked his competitive nature. He always tried to outsell me. It was good for business. OSB: Was the clipboard he gave you likely your most prized and beloved possession? MS: The clipboard was one of my most prized possessions. By the way does anyone know where it is? |

Every year, an estimated 200,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and unfortunately, of those, more than 40,000 will die. Although it is more commonly found in women, breast cancer is also diagnosed in over 1,700 men each year. No one wants to hear that they have been diagnosed with breast cancer; however it isn’t always a death sentence. By finding it early, and diagnosing it properly through self-tests and mammograms, breast cancer can be a very treatable disease. Unfortunately, there is no cure for breast cancer as of yet, so the best we can hope for is to raise awareness of the disease so that people will make sure to be tested early and often. The National Breast Cancer Foundation, INC. has some great information on self examinations, signs and symptoms of breast cancer, risk factors and early detection. Sanford, one of the world’s largest office supply manufacturers, which owns brands such as Sharpie, Paper Mate and Rolodex, has pledged to donate a portion of their profits from 2008 to the City of Hope cancer center to help fight breast cancer. |

Recently, a few of us from BuyOnlineNow were invited to Fellowes headquarters near Chicago to learn more about their company and their products and to make demonstration videos of some of their paper shredders. It was very interesting to see the main offices, learn more of the history of Fellowes and to take a tour through their manufacturing facilities where we saw Fellowes products actually being produced. We met with many representatives who gave us in depth product showcases and generally helped us understand more about the items they made. To relax and unwind at the end of the day, the plan was to go and see the Chicago Cubs play the Houston Astros at the "Friendly Confines" of Wrigley Field. After a quick and hearty dinner near the ballpark we went in and watched the game. We had excellent seats and everyone who came along seemed to be really enjoying themselves. We sat very close to the Cubs bullpen and had a great view of the pitchers warming up. Even though the forecast predicted rain, we got very lucky and the only "pouring" that occured was done by the vendors carrying around the Old Style and Budweiser. After the game we made our way out of Wrigley to a bar across the street to have a quick nightcap before heading back to the hotel and getting some rest. One of us mentioned possibly getting something to eat, but apparently the tavern we had chosen would only serve us food if we moved our party inside from the patio which was closing. Instead we just decided to pile in the van and make our way back. We did, in fact, have to be back to Fellowes fairly early the next morning, so it was decided we could maybe stop for something quick on the way back or even just hold off until breakfast.
It wasn't very far down the road we had driven when someone mentioned something about burritos. Not thirty seconds later, the same one of us who mentioned eating in the first place, and who was now driving the van, noticed a white and blue glow out of the corner of his eye and was drawn to it like a moth to the flames. Before any of us knew what was happening, or could offer any protest, we found ourselves in the long line at the White Castle drive through. I can't speak for any of the other passengers of the van, but based on my own personal experiences, I immediately started to get a little nervous and started sweating profusely. I knew how much power each White Castle slider held, what they would do to me and how hard it would be to deny the tiny square onion grilled buttons of goodness, but it was too late for that now.
After waiting in the drive through line for a few tense minutes, it was deemed that going inside would be the wisest choice, in an otherwise unwise situation. The only girl in our crew was chosen to go in and do the ordering for the simple reason that she was "closest to the door." Keep in mind it is approaching midnight and we aren't in the nicest neighborhood in Chicago. After waiting another few long minutes, I figured I should go in and offer my help in carrying out the 20 plus sliders, a few orders of fries and a couple of cokes. I can easily count on one hand how many times I've eaten at White Castle, but never before have I been witness to the magic involved in producing those delicious little sliders. Cooked on a bed of onions, the small square patties are then covered with pickles and placed inside a miniature bun. Judging by the look on the cook's face, making the burgers isn't nearly as interesting as watching them being made. As we waited patiently for our order, we saw at least 200 sliders go out. It was unbelievable. Finally, after an amazing 45 minutes had gone by, our "Crave Case" was ready, though it seemed like only a few minutes had passed as I sat transfixed behind the protective glass next to the grill station. The head chef called for our "four orders of fries, please!" but you could tell she didn't really mean the "please." We made our way to the waiting van outside and passed the sliders out to the eager hands inside.
Because I knew from specific personal experiences that White Castle sliders do not by any means agree with me, I resisted for a while in actually partaking in the feast. However, it wasn't long till that delicious aroma of onions and meat filled the van and the glorious echo of lips smacking lulled my senses into giving into the sweet, sinful temptation of a White Castle slider . I decided to have just one, figuring I would be fine (wrong), and I can still remember how amazing the flavor was. I figured that this is what Adam must've felt like when he took a bite of the apple in the garden of eden. I knew I would possibly regret my decision, but it just tasted so good.
Looking back, I think what I learned from the whole experience is that the people from Fellowes were awesome and really went out of their way to show us their products and treat us well and I look forward to the next time I get to see them all. Also I learned that stopping at White Castle at midnight for a quick meal isn't always necessarily very quick, but watching them make the sliders makes the time go by a lot faster than waiting in the van. And even though that one slider I ate didn't sit well in my stomach and I didn't feel like I was 100% for the next 24 hours, if you asked me whether I would do it all again, I'd have to say, yes, I certainly would. |
