Have you ever met anyone that claimed to hate napping? I don’t think they exist. Okay, well, I just choose to believe that anyone could hate napping, although my college roommate claimed that if she napped she would have to sleep all day long. Sure, when I nap I’d LOVE to be able to sleep all day long, but usually that’s not an option. Besides, I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night then! Anyway, last week I wrote a blog about my new standing workstation – but what about a napping workstation? According to an article from ABC News, the reason people tend to get tired between 1 and 3 pm is not because you just ate lunch – it’s because of our biological make up. Skipping lunch or eating a smaller lunch probably won’t help. But a nap will! Of course I’m not talking about sleeping while you’re supposed to be working – that’s not going to help anybody. I’m talking about catching a few zzz’s during your lunch break or even your afternoon break. I’m lucky enough to work close to home, so if I have a long lunch I can sneak home, eat quickly, and take a 15 minute nap. I’ve also in the past (before living close to work) grabbed a quick lunch or brought a sandwich from home, eaten in my car and taken a nap with the windows rolled down. I usually would like to drive to a park or something and find some shade, but if all you have time for is a nap in the parking lot – well, every little bit helps! The same article from ABS News explains that napping can help with productivity – which I’m sure your boss will be more than pleased about. So do you ever take naps at work?
