We've been selling Global Office Furniture for the last year and during that time I've been pleased to learn about their commitment to the environment.
One of their initiatives is the use of powder paint finishes on metal parts in Global production facilities. - About 98 percent of the excess paint powder is reused eliminating waste
- The powder in its raw form is classified as non-hazardous
- Powder coating is a waste-free process, eliminating the need to vent, filter or recover any solvents – very energy efficient
- Powder coating secures healthy working conditions for our employees!
As a result the finishes on Global file cabinets and Global chairs are durable, attractive and environmentally friendly. |

Clipboards have been around forever and it seems every office has a few. They're made from wood, pressboard, metal and plastic. Recently Saunders began offering 100% recycled plastic clipboards. These clipboards contain 60% post consumer waste and the remaining 40% is made from post industrial waste so no petroleum is used to produce new plastic. Plastic clipboards are more durable than wood, and require replacement much less frequently. They're available in 6 colors and can be found in our GoGreen - Buy Eco Friendly Office Supplies department by searching for clipboards. |

There's more to greening up your office than just buying recycled paper products (although that's a good idea), you can also reduce your exposure to toxic chemicals by using earth friendly office supplies. For instance, did you know that many highlighters contain solvents that can cause toxic reactions in your nervous system? You can avoid these toxins by choosing water based highlighters such as the Zazzle by Zebra Pens. Their water based pigment inks resist fading, and write on fax & carbonless paper. They're available singly in yellow, and in 5 and 8 color sets.
You can find them online at BuyOnlineNow.com. |

When we started using 100% recycled Marcal Paper I wondered how it would be received by our employees and so far so good. No complaints about scratchy toilet paper, flimsy paper towels; Marcal's recycled paper products perform as well as the virgin paper products we used to use. And if you wonder if it has an impact; take a look at this info from Marcal:
Each and every day Marcal's recycling saves...6,000 trees - 2,000,000 gallons of water - 22,000 pounds of air pollution - 140,000 gallons of oil - 30,000 cubic feed of landfill space! Every single day! And over the course of a year Marcal recycles more than 220,000 tons of paper. And they do it without using chlorine bleach. |

Does it really matter if I get a little greener? That's a question I've asked myself and you may have too. To answer, I'd like to share some information from the Natural Resource Defense Council's web site (complete article here).
If every household in the US bought 1 box each of 100% recycled facial tissues, toilet paper, paper towels & napkins (rather than products made from virgin fiber) more than 2 million trees could be saved annually. Looks like doing just a little can help a lot. How many rolls of paper towels do you use every year? Rolls of toilet paper, boxes of facial tissue? Imagine how many trees could be saved if we all bought 100% recycled paper products. If you're interested in trying any green household paper alternatives, we recommend Marcal Paper products. We carry more than 20 recycled Marcal Papers, all containing more than 30% post consumer waste. You can see our entire selection from Marcal Paper here. And learn more about shopping green with the NRDC's Shopper's Guide to Home Tissue Products.
