The Optimal Office Layout PDF Print E-mail

ImageA U-shaped layout with a full 360 degree reach to your entire workspace will dramatically increase efficiency, effectiveness and productivity.  This makes a U-Shaped Desk Configuration the ideal piece of office furniture . The main anchor of your U is your desk, which will take up one of the sides.  This area is primarily devoted to paperwork and task management.  All active projects along with commonly used office supplies like pens, a stapler and a telephone should be stored here.

The bottom of the U is the Bridge, a shorter, narrower desk top.  In some cases, the corner where the bridge meets the desk will be angled.  If this is the case, you will want to put your keyboard and computer monitors here.  If not, keep them in the middle of the return, making sure there is plenty of legroom beneath.

The third and final side of the U will be a credenza, file cabinet, bookcase or some combination of these furnishings.  This will be the perfect spot to keep reference materials, equipment and bulky supplies.

Remember, it is very important to keep everything within arms reach so you do not want too large of a work area.  Having to get up all day to retrieve tools or paperwork is a waste of valuable time so being sure you have everything close by is crucial.
